The pre-2017 Dyson upright range are fantastic machines – they have a 1200 watt motor and are built to last BUT are heavier than the newer models, although the .newer models aren’t nearly as good.
This is because of a 2017 EU ruling dictating that nobody could manufacture or sell a machine with more than a 900 watt motor and should not exceed 80db.
The deadline for this was September 1st 2017.

It is vitally important to keep these pre-2017 machines in existence, these machines should never be seen in Landfill because you just cannot buy machines of this quality and power in 2025.
Changing a motor in these machines is not a simple process by the virtue of the fact that it is very easy to break things if you do not know what you are doing BUT I accept that sometimes somebody would have no choice but to replace a motor themselves if they do not have a respected repair shop in their vicinity.
Some ‘Engineers’ with little experience may fit a cheap motor – there are cheaper motors out there but think of it this way, would you rather do the job once or would you like to do it all again a few months down the line ?
You can see an example of a cheap motor in My ‘Miele Mistakes’ video HERE.
I always install a quality motor, not only to protect my long standing good reputation but I don’t want the customer to have to come back to My shop.
I have created a 30 minute video below which you should find helpful – as with all of My video’s it’s advised that you watch them on a big screen (a TV) for best results.
