Miele repairs
Miele (pronounced ‘Meela’ or ‘Mila’) is another outstanding manufacturer. Being a German company, quality is expected as standard. We Love Miele machines.

There are some upright Miele machines, they are fairly robust but do suffer because of rough handling of the reclining mechanism. Unfortunately sometimes a cover/trim behind the motor, at the base of the machine becomes stuck and the customer feels the need to force the machine back into its upright position.
This causes all sorts of carnage internally
This can of course be fixed, actually it’s more accurate to say ‘Reset’.
Miele are most common in ‘Canister’ form – the type that sits on the floor and is pulled around by its operator.
There are some weak points:
- Bag clip can become easily damaged or dislodged
- Bag clip can be thrown away with the bag
- Clip holding trapdoor for the tools can break
- Power and cable rewind switch covers can get damaged
However, all of the above is avoidable with sensible handling and usage.
Miele Canister type Vacuums often suffer from a poorly installed or completely missing pre-motor filter. Additionally the customer uses the wrong size bag for the machine – the bag fills with debris and gets heavier! If the bag is too long this heavy bag will be resting onto the top of the filter door release lug.
This then pulls the filter gate/door open to allow everything through it, this then goes through the Motor and could kill it.
‘Lint’ WILL build up inside these machines over time – I have even seen one so full that the cable rewind mechanism was locked and would not move!
Often I see rough sounding machines, the reason is usually that ’stuff’ had gotten around the filter and got its self lodged into the impeller fins.
This unbalances the motor and whilst this is going on the main bearings inside the motor are taking a hammering and will not last long.
Bag Sizes:
- RED = Smaller of the two at 165x270mm. Type: FJM.
- BLUE = Larger at 180x280mm. Type GN.
We always use the correct size bag as part of a Service because we are aware of the difference but if buying for yourself consult your user manual (or Google it).
I sell the correct bags or if you are closer to Norwich and it’s outside of my opening hours go and see Barry on Norwich Market and give him my regards, a lovely fella.
If you hear something like this bring your machine in immediately because if you allow this to continue you will soon be asking me to install a new motor.
You can find cheap & nasty Motors for these but we only use Genuine.
ALL New Motors are guaranteed for 12 Months*
* Obviously if it is ruined by being used to clean up a liquid or something else as destructive we will have to work something out.
Beware of anybody not offering a warranty as it shows that they do not have confidence in the product they chose to install.
A service includes stripping the machine, cable rewind mechanism properly cleaned and rewired if necessary. Motor removed, checked and ultimately cleaned correctly. Circuit boards and switches tested and seals revived with my exclusive procedure.
The entire body is cleansed with our own five stage sanitation routine, even the inevitable gloss paint is removed from the casing as much as possible – we pride ourselves on the condition of the machines leaving the shop.
Internal sound deadening material needs to be properly cleaned, you would be surprised at the amount of weight these can add to your machine making it harder to move about.
Any issues are addressed when the machine is clean because attempting repairs/replacing parts etc before servicing a machine is not generally a good idea for various reasons.
New Pre-Motor filter, polished and carefully reconstructed (as you can break things if done incorrectly).
An unobtrusive ‘Service Sticker’ is then applied.
Enjoy the difference.
